One of the BIGGEST weight loss mistakes I’ve seen so many young women do in the modeling industry is to try and cut calories and skip meals. This may work, temporally, but long term will do more damage than good. When you don’t eat, or restrict yourself from eating enough, your body will start to go into starvation mode. When your body goes into starvation mode it will hold onto any extra calorie you eat in fear of not knowing when the next one will come. Doing this not only messes up your digestion but also makes it much more difficult in the future to lose weight effectively. Eating regularly, and healthily, will help maintain your metabolism and energy levels!
Below are some of my personal little tips and tricks that have worked for my body when it comes to attaining healthy weight loss. In reading please make sure that you’re eating enough and fueling your body properly with the right amount of healthy foods! I like to incorporate some of these tricks throughout each month to not only help maintain a healthy body but also help me prepare for a special event or holiday trip planned 😉
Eat Off Small Plates
Using smaller plates not only helps you eat smaller portions, but it also aids in helping you eat more slowly, and allows you to recognize when you’re full! Personally, when I eat off of a large plate I feel this weird internal pressure to finish my food. When I feel that pressure I tend to eat more quickly, as well. When we eat too quickly our stomach isn’t able to signal our brain that we’re full, which often results in eating more than we probably need to!
Sleep in a cold room
Studies have shown that sleeping in a slightly colder room not only helps burn extra calories, but it also helps boost the metabolism and improve sleep quality as well! Try experimenting with different temperatures while you sleep and see how it makes you feel. Try leaving a window open, shutting off the heat off while you sleep, or even try going commando!
Sit in the right spot
Happy hour and eating out are invitations to overeat. Next time you’re out, try grabbing a seat at the end or corner of the table instead of the middle. The middle is usually where the bread, chips, and dips are placed 😉
For some people, it can often be difficult to get the recommended daily intake of fruits and veggies. Drinking cold pressed (or freshly juiced) fruit and vegetable juices are such a great way to get in that extra source of nutrients and antioxidants! Drinking fresh juice not only adds extra nutrition to the body, but also helps detox, improves skin tone, lower cholesterol, improve nutrient absorption, and can aid in healthy weight loss.
Drink water, especially before meals!
Several studies have shown that drinking water before a meal will not only help improve digestion but can also help in consuming fewer calories which will eventually lead to weight loss. This is because water provides a sense of fullness so that ‘starving’ feeling isn’t as prominent 😉 So next time you’re feeling hungry try drinking a tall glass of water and then wait about 10-15 min and see if you still feel hungry. Sometimes the body gives us that ‘hungry’ feeling when we’re actually just dehydrated!
